As most of you know, we lost our first child, Elle Kae, to a condition called Vasa Previa when she was just 5 days old. After learning that her death could have been prevented, we created a foundation called the Vasa Previa Foundation of Utah and held annual fund raising walks to raise awareness about the condition and money to help fuel more research. We are now living in Oregon and have joined forces with the International Vasa Previa Foundation. Each year they sponsor "Sophie's Walk" in different cities all around the world. We are hosting a Sophie's Walk in Portland, Oregon on October 3rd and would love your support.

You can register online at and select Portland, OR as your city of choice on the walk registration page. You can register even if you won't be able to attend the walk. You can also make a donation on the same website. If you're not familiar with the condition, information regarding this is also listed on the website.

As always, please spread the word about Vasa Previa to help us prevent more avoidable infant deaths. If you would like to help with the walk, please contact Miriam directly. Thanks for all your love and support throughout the years!

It will be held at Red Sunset Park, on October 3rd at 10:00 am. We will have registration there starting at 9:30 am. We really appreciate your continuing support of our family and our foundation.

What is Vasa Previa?

Vasa Previa is a complication of pregnancy that manifests itself at the onset of labor. It is very easy to prevent this condition from claiming a life, but only if it is diagnosed before it's too late.
