The following is a letter we received from the International Vasa Previa Foundation(www.vasaprevia.com).  We are joining them in this campaign.  Please read it and participate.  If you have experienced Vasa Previa, please send this to everyone you know.  Thank you.

Bryce Gerritsen.

Dear everyone:

As you are all probably aware, we have been waging a HUGE media
campaign both in the U.K. and in the U.S. (soon to be waged in
Australia and Canada as well) leading off with the Samat and the
Partridge's fantastic press coverage in the U.K. that has led to
the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (RCOG) in the U.K.
to agree to change the guidelines to look for vp in pregnant women
at risk.

We have so far sent the press release out to more than 100
different media in the U.S. and have gotten not quite the response
we are looking for, but we are still trying. Thanks to the IVPF
volunteers that have been emailing and calling the press
incessantly, we could not do it without you!

We have also drafted two letters to send to OPRAH in the U.S. The
plan is to MASS mail these letters to her the week of March 31st.
There is a letter for vp angels and another letter for vp
survivors. PLEASE have a friend sign and send the letter on your
angel/survivor's behalf that week to:

The Oprah Winfrey Show, Harpo Studios
1058 West Washington Chicago, IL 60607

Or to
https://www.oprah.com/plugger/templates/BeOnTheShow.jhtml?ac tion=respond&plugId=B2100004

At the same time, PLEASE send your story to the following link:
https://www.oprah.com/plugger/templates/BeOnTheShow.jhtml?ac tion=respond&plugId=B2100004
or click here. The story needs to be less than 2,000 characters.
The attached letters for your families and friends to use are
formatted with less than 2,000 characters and is perfect to cutting
and pasting into the above link. If you do not have your story and
need help with it, please contact us at info@vasaprevia.com.
Kristen Lewis has volunteered to help with the stories.

We feel that this double pronged effort will get us on her radar
once and for all. But we cannot do it without your help. PLEASE
help us put a stop to vp deaths once and for all.

The letters are attached. Please print out the appropriate letter
and mail to Oprah. Help us keep track of how many letters have been
sent by sending an email to info@vasaprevia.com once your letter
has been mailed and your story has been emailed to the link.

We will keep you posted on how many letters we managed to get to
Oprah. We are shooting for at least 100 letters so we need
EVERYONE to send one in, from all over the world. This is our
first huge simultaneous international PR effort.

Thanks in advance for your huge contribution.

Dear Oprah,

I am writing about an extremely important show idea: a pregnancy condition called vasa previa which potentially takes the life of 55,000 babies worldwide each year and 1,600 in the US alone. I have a friend who recently lost her baby to this condition.  She had never heard of the condition and neither she nor her doctors knew that she had the condition until after doctors performed an emergency C-section.

After my friend’s loss, we found the International Vasa Previa Foundation (IVPF) website IVPF.org. They have many heartbreaking stories of families who went to the hospital to deliver their babies and, instead of joyfully taking a new baby home, they had silence and a funeral. The sad thing is that prenatal diagnosis during routine ultrasound can prevent almost 100% of these deaths. Studies show an additional 20 seconds during a routine ultrasound is needed to detect this condition. But checking for vasa previa is not part of the standard of care. It is our hope that you will help us change this.

Last month after The Sunday Times in the UK published information, facts, and testimonials from parents whose babies had died due to this condition, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists decided to change their guidelines on diagnosing vasa previa; pregnant women in the UK will now be screened during routine ultrasound at 20 wks, subsequently preventing babies from dying.

Please help save these babies in the US and throughout the world. There are many families who would love to share their story to get the word out about this often tragic condition. The IVPF knows several doctors available for interview who could provide medical information on testing available to detect this condition. The IVPF can be reached at info@vasaprevia.com or by calling 267-790-6693. With your help, someday vasa previa infant deaths will be a thing of the past.

Thank you.
